IBM IBM Z Customer Council – Carolinas

You are cordially invited to join us for our next zEnterprise Customer Council event at the Bank of America auditorium located at the Wake Forest Charlotte Center in Charlotte, NC. The goal of the council is to provide our customers in management positions and their employees a forum to learn the latest System z technologies and directions.

We’ll start off our day with a welcome from our site host, Bank of America, followed by a customer presentation on how they use their System z from a business and technical perspective.

Our second presentation will be about latest z System hardware and software.  z System has the ability to support new market-driven applications for machine learning and advanced analytics.  It provides what’s needed to innovate in the cloud to drive faster response and deployment times.  And it supports the latest technologies including utilizing Blockchain to revolutionize and secure your business processes.

After lunch, we hear about New Languages on z.  In addition to the traditional languages such as COBOL, C, C++, and PL/I, there are multiple modern languages that are getting adoption by developers worldwide. Java, JavaScript, and Swift are enriching the server ecosystem and they provide different capabilities.   This session will provide an overview of the trends of modern programming languages and how they are used by enterprise clients. It will focus on some of the newest technologies: Swift & Node.js, and the efforts done by IBM to bring those languages to the server and cloud platform (i.e. z/OS and Linux on z Systems).

We’ll end our presentation agenda with an update on the IBM Academic Initiative where you’ll hear about the program that IBM has in place with many universities in our area and around the country to support the development of new z Systems talent.  We are also going to include a panel discussion with some recent hires in the area and they will answer questions from the audience about their experience being the Next Generation of z!  Included in this portion our agenda will be an overview of the Update IT program that NC A&T is developing to bring new z System curriculum to universities by Dr. Cameron Seay.
