Get introduced to the Java and Liberty Updates in the new CICS V6.1 Release

Overview

Java and Liberty in CICS have been adopted across the enterprise by many CICS customers. CICS offers a unique range of capabilities allowing fast, local, access to existing z/OS and CICS assets, as well as full support for modern Enterprise Java APIs like Jakarta EE 9, Spring Boot, and the Eclipse MicroProfile-5.0.

The rich set of standard Java frameworks that CICS embeds, interoperate well with industry common tooling and take full advantage of IDEs such as Eclipse and CICS Explorer, components repositories such as Maven Central, and source-code repositories such as GitHub. CICS also offers GitHub samples that demonstrate how easy it is to take advantage of modern build tools such as Gradle and Maven.

In this presentation we take a look at some of the new capabilities of CICS TS v6.1 including support for IBM’s Semeru runtime for Java 11, Jakarta EE 9, MicroProfile-5.0, the JCICS 2.0 API enhancements, as well as a variety of stepwise improvements to the CICS Java runtimes. We also provide a quick refresher on the Spring Boot support that CICS introduced in prior releases.
