July 23, 2024
9:30 AM EDT - 4:30 PM EDT
IBM will host an In-Person CICS Smart Seminar on July 23, 2024 in Chicago, IL
8:30AM – 3:30PM CT
There is no virtual offering for this event; Registration closes July 21
Objective:
Every application development team faces the same mandate: Do it faster, more efficiently and use fewer resources. But whether you master that challenge depends in large part on your in-house technology, how well you use it, and how prepared you are for the latest advancements in application development technology.
Join us in this complimentary technology seminar for in-depth discussions on how CICS solutions can help solve some of your biggest challenges. You’ll learn about the benefits of CICS Transaction Server V6, new programming interfaces, new language support and important high availability options.
You’ll also have the unique opportunity to interact with technical professionals who have extensive experience in application development tools and CICS infrastructure so that you can make better-informed decisions and gain control of critical processes.
Audience:
CICS application developers, CICS systems programmers, architects/leads, and managers

Session Abstracts
CICS TS V6 Technical Overview
CICS Transaction server for z/OS (CICS TS) is a world-class, secure, and scalable platform for hosting transactional enterprise applications in a hybrid architecture. CICS applications can efficiently update data and messages in IBM Db2, IBM IMS, IBM VSAM, and IBM MQ with transaction integrity, while meeting demanding service level agreements. CICS TS provides an excellent foundation for a stepwise, low-risk, high-return approach to application modernization.
This session will discuss enhancements that came with version 6.1 as well as some of the new features in the recently announced 6.2 release.
Modern Languages
CICS TS has evolved to become the world’s most powerful mixed language application server. Applications can share core programming contexts regardless of the language its components are written in. CICS TS 6.1 enhances the experience and productivity of developers by adding support for familiar languages and APIs, such as Java 17, Jakarta 9.1, MicroProfile 5, and build tools such as Gradle and Maven. In addition, the new CICS TS resource builder tool empowers developers to define CICS application resources themselves in YAML alongside the code.
Lunch Session – z/OS Connect
Cloud and mobile applications reshape the way enterprises and systems interact. RESTful APIs that use JSON message formats are the predominant standards for new application development. IBM z/OS Connect EE provides access to z/OS subsystems, such as CICS, IMS, and DB2, using RESTful APIs with JSON formatted messages.
Asynchronous API
The CICS asynchronous application programming interface (API) provides a powerful means for IBM customers to optimize CICS applications for Web Services and APIs that are external to CICS. The asynchronous APIs allow for multiple requests to service providers to occur concurrently, rather than one after the other, all using a supported API in CICS. This session will introduce the “AYSNC API” and show how to use it CICS applications.
CICSPlex SM and the CICS Explorer
Managing large numbers of CICS regions to support a transaction processing workload is becoming increasingly common. CICSPlex Systems Manager (CPSM) is an integral component of CICS Transaction Server that enables you to manage multiple CICS systems from a single control point. This topic provides an overview of the systems management functions provided in CICSPlex SM.
The CICS Explorer has become an essential component when working with CICS, either as an application developer or and a systems administrator. This session will highlight some of the more recent enhancements to the CICS Explorer including multi-factor authentication (MFA), Aggregation of resource views, and others.
