You are cordially invited to join us for our next zEnterprise Customer Council event at the NC Department of Cultural Resources Auditorium in Raleigh.  Our sponsor for this edition of the council is the NC Department of Information Technology.  The goal of the council is to provide our customers in management positions and their employees a forum to learn the latest System z technologies and directions.

We’ll start off our day with a welcome presentation from the NC Department of IT, followed by a presentation by Mike Giglio of Wipro, The Emperor Strikes Back – Exploiting New and Advanced LinuxOne Features with z/VM.  Implementing a new LinuxOne is a nontrivial amount of work. Exploiting new and advanced features like Global Shared LACP VSWITCH, HiperSockets Bridges and z/VM Live Guest Relocation make the LinuxOne implementation that much more difficult. The goal was to move dozens of production Linux servers from an zEC12 to the LinuxOne without interruption. We will also talk about some of the challenges and things we learned the hard way. That way, when you exploit the same features on your LinuxOne, you can learn the easy way instead of the hard way.

Our second presentation will be about IBM Cloud Private with Linux on z Systems, where you’ll hear how it provides the advantages of a private cloud on a server platform that is optimized for data and cognitive services.  It’s designed to deliver the benefits of a public cloud in a security-rich, scalable and reliable environment.  It enables enterprises to accelerate innovation using modern agile processes, integrates with existing systems, and provides a strategic platform for multi-cloud integration while maintain the control and compliance that organizations like yours need.

Following lunch, we will explore an exciting new area – IBM Z and the use of APIs to accelerate digital business transformation. This session dives into IBM’s new Data Virtualization Manager for z/OS, which enables real-time access to all your enterprise data – mainframe and non-mainframe, without any data movement.  You’ll learn how the Data Virtualization Manager can open your mainframe to the API economy and securely transform mainframe applications and data into RESTful APIs that your developers can immediately re-purpose into new mobile, cloud or next-generation web applications

We’ll end our agenda with an update on the IBM Academic Initiative where you’ll hear about the program that IBM has in place with many universities in our area and around the country to support the development of new z Systems talent.  We are also going to include a panel discussion with some recent hires in the area and they will answer questions from the audience about their experience being the Next Generation of z!
