Registration is now open for the 2019 4Q Southern California IBM Z User Group meeting. Anyone who wants to learn more on how Z Systems interacts with advanced technologies is welcome to attend. The purpose of this group is to encourage and foster the exchanges of ideas, insights, and experiences with Z Systems hardware and software. Discussion topics for all meetings are always selected by you as a Z user.

According to Donna Hudi, Chief Marketing Office of Phoenix Software International, a conversion from JES3 to JES2 is displeasing to many organizations for various reasons. It is a costly, multi-year commitment that some do not believe is money well spent. Mainframe-hostile management might see an opportunity to move away from the platform. Many organizations lack the in-house expertise, time, desire, and budget to perform the analysis and pay for the conversion. Many are concerned about the operational and business risk that could be introduced. Thus, when an IBM Statement of Direction made it clear JES3 would be discontinued, PSI took the necessary steps to provide JES3 customers with a fully-supported alternative, with a road map for enhancements, no planned end of life, and no additional licensing costs. Please join us as Donna shares more about PSI’s licensing of JES3 and what it means for your organization in JES^plus: The Same, Only Better.

Curious about what a more modern DevOps process looks like on Z? Look no further! Spencer Krueger, IBM DevOps for z Systems Certified CTA, will give an overview of Z Open Unit Test and Z Development and Test Environment. Following the overview, Spencer will give a demo of how to integrate these tools in your DevOps process.

Finally, with the IBM® z/OS® V2.4 operating system, IBM intends to unleash innovation through an agile, optimized, and resilient platform that helps clients to build applications and services based on a highly scalable and secure infrastructure that delivers the performance and availability for on-premises or provisioned as-a-service workloads that enable businesses to digitally transform. Jovanna Hadley, IBM zClient Technical Specialist, will give an overview of what is new in the latest z/OS 2.4 release.

After the speakers, there will be time to wrap up lunch, open discussions among the user group and answer any questions.
