IBM Dynamic Partition Manager (DPM), first released with IBM z13®, is changing the administration of the mainframe providing a simplified, consumable, and enhanced user experience via the IBM Z Hardware Management Console (HMC). Today, setting up and operating an IBM Z system requires a lot of deep mainframe knowledge, dealing with a variety of management endpoints and interacting very complex tasks and tools. Also, there is currently no way to automate dynamic provisioning of hardware resources.
DPM delivers dynamic hardware and virtual infrastructure management including partition provisioning, life-cycle, and I/O configuration from a single management end-point. The user can create new partitions, assign processors and memory resources, and configure I/O adapters, including network, storage, and crypto adapters, through an intuitive User Interface (U/I) without disrupting running workloads. Further, the user can monitor the environment to identify the source of failures or events that may lead to workload degradation. Especially junior System Administrators are enabled to perform any system management task with confidence and proficiency. This session shows the power of IBM Dynamic Partition Manager in action and includes the updates for e.g. Storage Management delivered in 3Q and 4Q2020.
