We’ll start off our day with a welcome from our site host, Bank of America, followed by a presentation by Mike Giglio of Ensono.  When you hear the statement “You Should Consider Becoming a Sponsor User,” instinct may tell you to DUCK and COVER. In reality, there is great value and little or no pain when you become a sponsor user. The experience of having a positive impact upon the life-cycle and functions of IBM products benefit your employer, the mainframe community and even IBM. This session will tell the story of the sponsor user experience, with sufficient details. Then you can make up your mind if becoming a Sponsor User is for you.

Our second presentation will be about IBM Z in the Cloud.  Are you challenged to keep up with new demands of digital business while also operating with the agility and flexibility required for speed to market? z/OS Cloud Broker for IBM Cloud Private empowers you to do this and more through the power of IBM Z in the cloud. This technology gives you the ability to access and deploy z/OS resources and services through IBM Cloud Private for a seamless and universal cloud native application development experience inclusive of non-Z technologies and services.

After lunch, we hear about Mainframe Ecosystem: Beyond TM, DB and ToolsThe mainframe is over 50 years young and continues to evolve for modern IT systems. Modern languages and end to end development tools are the tip of the iceberg in this new world. It’s no longer a monolith of the mainframe either. Any kind of data, from any platform is now directly accessible from within mission critical subsystems such as CICS, IMS and DB2. CICS, IMS and DB2 data can be shared directly with other systems as well. And transactions can now begin at the interface of choice – web, mobile, IoT, ATM, Point of Sale and anything else that’s imaginable. Improvements for end to end security, resilience, and manageability are also available. Come learn how new capabilities in CICS, IMS and DB2 can improve your IT environment.

Next up will be a presentation and demo of Talk to the Mainframe, which is an about an application called VIVA (Vicom Infinity Voice Assistant).  ViVa shows how you can securely interact with a mainframe using your voice and the latest technologies such as IBM Watson, Secure Services Container and Linux Foundation Open Mainframe Project’s open source tool, Zowe.

Our next presentation will be about Transforming the Information Development (ID) Experience – a pilot project with zERT. During this presentation, you’ll learn how the z/OS Communications Server development and ID teams are using content strategy methodology in a pilot project with z/OS Encryption Readiness Technology (zERT) to improve information experience, amplify social reach, and increase engagement and adoption of this important technology. Hear how their new approach to reshape the users’ experience by providing technical content that includes product documentation, blogs, white papers, videos, and tutorials at the right time in the right place to enable users to learn zERT, try it out, and use it successfully.  You’ll also hear how you may become engaged with future projects through becoming a sponsor user.

Our last topic will be about the recently-announced Tailored Fit Pricing.  Tailored Fit Pricing delivers simplicity, transparency, and predictability of pricing for your mainframe MLC software. It offers two comprehensive alternatives to the rolling four-hour average, Enterprise Consumption Solution and Enterprise Capacity Solution. It also offers these solutions for specific workloads that can coexist alongside both traditional and the new enterprise models: Application Development and Test Solution (DevTest), and New Application Solution.  All of these solutions dramatically simplify pricing and deliver flexible deployment options that are tailored to reflect your environment. They allow you to embrace the best technical fit, greatly reducing the need to architect for software costs.
