Overview

The IMS Insight Series is intended as a means to bring the IMS community together in order to feature topics including best practices, recommendations, new functionality, demonstrations, workshops, etc., that impact the IMS environment.  Each session will feature a Subject Matter Expert(s) who explore a specific area and provides  the “what”, the “why” and the “how” to address the topic.

Part 1 – Are you Aware of what is available? Synchronous Callout Models
In today’s world of integration, IMS has evolved from providing not only server functionality but also the capability to function as a client and invoke applications/data in other environments. This presentation describes the different methods for implementing callout functionality for your IMS applications. It will discuss current synchronous capabilities such as the ICAL, the z/OS Connect API requester, the use of MQ, and the z/OS Client Web enablement toolkit along with the implications associated with synchronous processing.

Part 2 – And… What’s coming? Asynchronous High Throughput Callout
However, as more and more IMS applications interact with cloud applications, there has evolved an even greater need to do so without compromising the high throughput requirements of existing critical production systems. This presentation will cover new options added by the upcoming IMS Transaction Orchestration function.
