We are back!

We are thrilled to announce an in-person IBM Z Customer Council in Tysons, VA

There have been many developments in the IBM Z world, and we would like to highlight some of the most exciting topics in modernization, AIOps, and IBM LinuxONE.

Our first speaker, Leonard Santalucia, will kick off the day with a presentation on the Open Mainframe Project. The open source movement has rapidly become the way code is being developed for today’s smart and agile businesses. This session will cover how an “open mainframe” is the perfect solution for deploying open source on an enterprise computing platform. Attendees will learn how the open source community has gathered around the mainframe platform and how open source projects such as Zowe, COBOL, a new working group focused on mainframe modernization and more are the starting point for open development.

Next, Chris Walker will discuss our AIOps portfolio and how to ensure that the mainframe is an integral part of your enterprise observability strategy. Operational resiliency depends on detecting application performance issues in mobile, cloud, or on-prem environments before things turn ugly. Yet most enterprise-wide observability solutions provide little to no visibility into IBM Z resources. Even the best operations teams sometimes cannot identify application performance problems until end users are impacted, and reactive root cause analysis delays resolution. In this session we introduce the topic of enterprise observability, including the concept of Open Telemetry, and show why a complete end-to-end view of hybrid applications, including IBM Z, is essential today for everyone in the enterprise from business operations to development to operations.

Then, Barry Silliman will present AI-Assisted Application Modernization with IBM watsonx Code Assistant for Z. IBM watsonx Code Assistant for Z is an AI assisted mainframe application modernization solution that will make it easier for developers to incrementally modernize, and re-factor COBOL business services and selectively transform to high quality Java code optimized for IBM Z.

After lunch, Matt Hodak will close out the day with a presentation on the IBM LinuxONE 4 Express–the newest addition to the IBM LinuxONE product family. The new system will extend the latest performance, security, sustainability, and AI capabilities of LinuxONE to small- and medium-sized businesses and within new data center environments. The pre-configured rack mount system is designed to offer cost savings and remove client guesswork when rolling out solutions to address new and traditional use cases such as digital assets, medical imaging with AI, and workload consolidation.
